ICT: Lifeline for Children on the Move in Asia?
Panel discussion: What can the ICT sector do to provide better access to services and protect children on the move?
Child migration is a global reality, and nearly 12 million of the world’s international child migrants are in Asia. While on the move, children are particularly vulnerable: they are without their support structures, in unfamiliar territory and at risk of exploitation, abuse, being trafficked and even losing their lives.
In a region with more mobile phones than people, the digital growth in Asia presents opportunities for children on the move to make informed decisions prior to migration, to stay safe and to keep in contact and be reunited with their families. However, the use of ICT is not without risks. Serious consideration must be given to the safety of technology for children on the move.
Save the Children is launching its report Protecting Children on the Move in Asia through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Social Media and we are delighted to invite you to a panel discussion on how the ICT sector can:
· Apply existing or new technologies to mitigate risks for children who are on the move
· Collaborate with NGOs and government to provide reliable ICT services to children on the move
